Valerio Barberis on Urban Planning in Prato – Oslo Architecture Triennale

Lecture by architect Valerio Barberis, urban planning commissioner of Prato, Italy.

Architect Valerio Barberis is behind a number of initiatives in the city, both big and small, including revitalization of an industrial zone where many Chinese workshops are located – and a series of minor interventions into the public spaces for fruitful platforms of exchange, to create a common ground for the Chinese community and the inhabitants of Prato.

Prato is one of ten sites that are presented in the In Residence exhibition, each reflecting on global migration. The district of Prato is one of the engines for the manufacturing of “Made in Italy” labeled products which the industry proudly sells throughout the world as a trademark of quality based on “local” standards of production. At the same time, Prato currently also has one of the biggest Chinatowns in Europe, with more than 50,000 inhabitants.

The Lecture takes place within the extended program of Oslo Architecture Triennale.
