Salotto Jazz all’IIC: Altopiano – con Carlo Morena e Morten Halle Duo

Morena and Halle started working together in 2010, and have since appeared onstage in clubs and concert halls both in Italy and Norway. Their first album “Altopiano” was released on the Norwegian label Curling Legs in november 2014.
The Duo presents a refreshing mix of original material and rearrangements of standard tunes and folk-music, all performed with a free improvisatoric approach.

Carlo Morena – piano
A student of both jazz and the 20th century European classical tradition, Morena has collaborated with a long list of jazz notables such as saxophonists Dave Liebman, Charlie Mariano and Iain Ballamy, guitarists Kurt Rosenwinkel and John Abercrombie, and trumpeter Enrico Rava, in a nearly forty-year career. He released his trio album Some Portraits in 2010 to much acclaim. Morena performs regularly in various settings on the festival and clubscene in Europe and is a professor at the conservatory in Milano.

Morten Halle – sax
Halle has been a prolific musican on the Norwegian Jazz scene since the late seventies. His professional career started in the jazz-rock band Cutting Edge (79-85), at the time he also did a lot of session and studio work. He was one of the co-founders of the legendary Norwegian big-band Oslo 13, and went on to join Jon Balkes Magnetic North Orchestra (1992 to 2002). He has also recorded and toured internationally with Geir Lysnes big-band. He has released two records in his own name: Ten easy pieces (2005) and Halles Komet (2007) as well as several albums as a co-leader, the most recent being “Jazz Album 2018” with his new band Into The Wild Hills. Halle is an assistant professor at the Norwegian Academy of music in Oslo where he is currently holding the position as vice principal for education.
