Exhibition Design for the new Nasjonalmuseet

Guicciardini & Magni Architects is an architectural practice mainly involved in cultural heritage projects at different scales, within the fields of Architecture, Architectural Restoration, Museum Exhibition Design and Interior Design. Since 1990 Guicciardini & Magni Architects have realized more than forty museums and seventy temporary exhibitions in Italy and abroad and is currently working on the exhibition design for the new Nasjonalmuseet in Oslo wich will open just in a few days time. The IIC has therefore taken the opportunity to invite the architects to talk about this ongoing museological project soon to be finished, and they will display how it has evolved since the start up in 2016 though the dialogue with the Museum and its curators and conservators.

One of the distinctive elements in the process and dialogue with the Museum has been the feeling of kindness, the high regard towards the visitors while creating the interiors and exhibition rooms, Marco Magni tells in an interwiev with Art Tribune. In order to support the visit through the museum rooms, the architects have created a series narrow spaces, episodes, pauses, surprises, installations which intrigues the curiosity of the visitor and spaces dedicated to relax, interaction and sociality. The use of colours has of course also been an important ingredient, as in the room with landscape paintings from the 19th century which mirrors the fresh colours in the nature depictured. Lightening and the use of material – like steel, anti-glare glass, bronze and paper – have also been designed in dialogue with the art exposed and the Scandinavian tradition .
