Jazz IT Abroad: Saksofonist Giulia Barba i konsert i Stavanger

Saksofonist Giulia Barba er invitert med hennes kvartett av konservatoriet i Stavanger til å presentere sitt albun "Sonoro". Konserten er del av programmet "Jazz IT Abroad" -  en konkurranse lansert av Italia Music Export , et initiativ ved Det italienske utenriksdepartementet - der Giulia altså deltok og vant.

Born in Bologna in 1984, Italian reed player Giulia Barba decided to pursue musical studies after she majored in Philosophy at the University of Bologna. Only then she began studying music, first in Italy, then in the Netherlands, attending the prestigious Conservatorium Van Amsterdam.

In 2012 Giulia had the honor to be a member of the Arena Project, together with the most talented musicians from Europe such as Karlis Auzins, Miklos Borbely, Eva Bjerga Haugen, Inge Breistein, Petru Popa and Anton Hunter. The Arena Project performed at the prestigious MaiJazz Festival in Stavanger (Norway) led by famous composer and bass player Per Zanussi. The performance was recorded and published as a limited edition album.

In 2013 she released her debut album The angry St.Bernard, which was nominated within the best jazz cds of the year (Jazzism, NL). Published by record label Blue Serge, the album was recorded in Amsterdam together with Sri Hanuraga, Luca Dalpozzo, Sanem Kalfa, Gidon Nunes Vaz, Christian Ferlaino and Joan Terol Amigo, at the well known Studio 150.

In 2015 she worked together with actors Mariano Arenella and Elena Ferrari in order to compose the soundtrack of their theater play La dolce guerra, which was named within the best plays of the theater season 2015-2016 by the prestigious review Milano Teatri.

In 2016 Giulia has been touring around Italy with famous singer songwriter John De Leo, she performed in many prestigious venues such as: Casa del Jazz (Roma), Teatro San Giorgio (Udine) and Salumeria della Musica (Milano).

From 2017 Giulia is a stable member of The Tower Jazz Composer Orchestra which was nominated the third "Best italian group of the year" in 2019 according to national printed magazine "Musica Jazz".

In 2018 she performed at Piazza San Giovanni (Roma) for the "May 1st Concert", broadcasted live on RAI 2 (national TV channel). Still in 2018 Giulia performed at Bologna Jazz Festival together with Tower Jazz Composer Orchestra featuring the jazz star David Murray.

In 2022 Giulia released her second album as a leader and composer: "Sonoro". Recorded together with singer Marta Raviglia, clarinetist Daniele D'Alessandro and Andrea Rellini at cello. The album is published by BNC Music (Rome), it was presented at Teatro San Leonardo (Bologna) during a three-day festival "Risvegli", and it was broadcasted live on national radio RAI RADIO 3 during the radio program "Piazza Verdi".
