Jazzsalong på IIC med Giulio Gentile Trio

Trioen ble til gjennom et møte mellom tre musikkstudenter, alla fra Abruzzi-regionen. I tillegg til et solid vennskap, har de det til felles at de ønsker å prøve ut nye ideer samtidig som de beholder det klassiske pianotrio-formatet intakt. På repertoaret står både pianist Giulio Gentiles egne komposisjoner som både er melodiske og rytmiske, samt kjente klassikere i jazzsjangeren som låtene til  John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter e Thelonius Monk. Trioen har allerede en rekke konserter bak seg og er i ferd med å spille inn sitt første album.

Giulio Gentile was born in Sulmona (AQ) on 12/08/1994. He graduated summa cum laude in Jazz Piano with special mention from the examination commission at “Conservatorio Luisa D’Annunzio” in Pescara (Italy). He participated and won various contests: 1° place “Premio Abbado 2015”; “Best Band Prize” at Bucharest International Jazz Competition; 1° place “Premio Marco Tamburini 2016”; 1° place “Premio Nazionale delle Arti 2017”. In 2017 he joined the National Jazz Orchestra (ONJ) led by M° Pino Jodice. With the “ONJ” he performed the major Italian Jazz Festivals, playing with special guests such as Paolo Fresu, Fabrizio Bosso, Alex Sipiagin, Mario Biondi, Tino Tracanna and Billy Cobham. In 2018 he spent a short period of study at “University Of North Florida” (UNF), where he attended lessons, masterclasses and played with the big band conducted by Michael Mossman with Luis Bonilla and Danny Gottlieb as special guests.

Born in a musical family, Pietro Pancella started studying music since he was a child both in family and privately with different teachers. He graduated in Classical Double Bass at Liceo Musicale “G. Misticoni”, later he got a three years degree with final full grades in Jazz Double Bass at “A. Casella” conservatory in L’Aquila under M° Luca Bulgarelli’s direction. In 2017 he has won, together with his
band called Koinaim the first prize at “Chicco Bettinardi” contest organized by Piacenza Jazz Festival. Moreover he has won first prize at “Tuscia in Jazz European Award 2017” with the same band. He has also come first at “Marco Tamburini Award 2017”. He performed in vocalist Gegè Telesforo’s Group together with Koinaim band and pianist Domenico Sanna. They all are taking part in the third edition of Rai 5 tv program called “Variazioni su tema”. He plays and collaborates with some musicians of international fame such as Paolo Di Sabatino, Flavio Boltro, Max Ionata, Tony Pancella, Bepi D’Amato, Mike Applebaum, Nino Rapicavoli, Carlo Morena, Pasquale Strizzi, Pierpaolo Pecoriello, L’Aquila Conservatory Big Band (together with Solisti Aquilani and Sinfonica Abruzzese), etc.

Michele Santoleri was born in Chieti on 1994. He graduated summa cum laude in Percussion at “Conservatorio Luisa D’Annunzio” in Pescara (Italy). After that he graduated at the “Conservatorio A. Casella” in L’Aquila in Jazz Drums. He participated and won several contests: “Chicco Bettinardi”, “Tuscia in Jazz European Award”, “Tamburini 2017”; “Italy Percussion Competition”, drums section.
He collaborated with: Gegè Telesforo, Dario Deidda, Domenico Sanna, Nicola Piovani, Willie Peyote, Serena Brancale, Ainè. Petra Magoni, GianlucaPetrella, Maurizio Giammarco, Giovanni Sollima, Uli John Roth (Scorpions), Giò Di Tonno, Roberta Faccani (Matia Bazar), Vittorio De Scalzi (New Trolls)
