We are pleased to present, in collaboration with the Embassy of Poland and Fondazione Società dei cocnerti, the piano recital «Chopin, Rachmaninov: crossed tributes» with the young but excellent Italian pianist Monica Zhang.
The concert takes place in the Embassy of Poland, Þórunnartún 2, Reykjavik, at 6.00 pm, local time.
Crossing tributes: Miss Zhang will play the 24 Preludes by Chopin and perform the tribute of Alfredo Casella to the Polish composer with the «Studi sulle quinte». The artist will then conclude with Rachmaninov, celebrating the 150th anniversary of his birth. She will propose Variations op. 22, inspired by the theme of the «Poet of the Piano».

Pianist Monica Zhang was born in Milan in 2007 and began studying piano at the age of eight years old. Since 2017, Catia Iglesias and Vincenzo Balzani have been tutoring her, and she has developed a musical repertoire ranging from Bach to Ligeti. She has performed throughout Italy in solo concerts, chamber and symphonic, invited by prominent academias and foundations. Miss Zhang has won several international competitions. Among them, she has received awards from Milan Pianotalent and the Paris IMPF. In 2021, she won 1° at the Steinway competition, gaining the opportunity to represent Italy at the Hamburg Festival. She performed for the Italian President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella and she was invited by Andrea Bocelli to play at Teatro Verdi in Pisa. She won the instrumental music selection competition on Rai 1’s prime time show «Prodigi».
Milan Foundation «La società dei concerti» is hosting her in its artists’ residence for the 2022/2023 season.
