Som en del av Fotobokfestival Oslo arrangerer Fotogalleriet i samarbeid med Forbundet for Frie Fotografer (FFF) et seminar dedikert til praksisen rundt fotobøker. I tillegg vil det også være en relansering av Nordic Photobook Award (tidligere Nordic Dummy Award).
Det vil skje på Gamle Munch den 1. september, i tidsperioden 11:00 til 15:00, der både nasjonale og internasjonale bidragsytere vil ta for seg upubliserte fotobøker og de usynlige nettverkende de opererer i. Registrering er gratis men anbefalt via Eventbrite.
Temaet for seminaret springer ut ifra en pågående performance-serie som begynte med kunstneren Marthe Ramm Fortun våren 2019. I lys av performancen When I’m not near the slide I love, I love the slide I’m near, begynte Ramm å ta for seg utslettelse av historien og gjenreiselsen av feministiske perspektiver og blikk på kunstinstitusjoner. I sin søken fant hun en fotobok som aldri ble publisert av den norske fotografen Henny Lie (f.1945).
Sett i lys av bøker som knapt har kommet til overflaten, inviteres både publikummere og medvirkende til refleksjon og stille spørsmål ved behovet for slike publikasjoner, både kunst og fotobøker, deres betydning og hvilke som må gis ut og hvorfor.
Hvilken makt har institusjoner til å utslette ikke bare kunstverk, men også liv? Hva kan bli synlig eller usynlig av den trykte pressen og sirkulasjonen av fotografisk materiale?
Dette er spørsmål som reises i forbindelse med denne prosessen, og bidragsyterne vil på hver sin måte ta tak i både tematikken og kanskje komme med flere.
Slik det er nevnt innledningsvis er det også en relansering av Nordic Photobook Award (NPA) i et fornyet format. Denne prosessen har inkludert en større internasjonal konferanse, Photography Bound i 2021 og en publikasjon med samme tittel, utgitt på forlaget Silvana Editoriale i 2022, produsert i samarbeid med Universitetet i Bergen. Arrangementet vil også fungere som lanseringen av denne utgivelsen i Norge.

ABOUT FOTOBOKFESTIVAL OSLO
Fotobokfestival Oslo is an annual event which aims to explore the photo book as an artistic medium and phenomenon. The festival was established by Forbundet Frie Fotografer (FFF) in 2009. Since its beginning, it has continued to feature widely recognized art photographers and young, new participants in photography, the photo book genre and publishing activity nationally and internationally. The festival is organized and shown in Oslo and is free and open for all. Also connected to the festival is a satellite program where relevant participants participate to the festival with their own events.
Fotogalleriet
The Fotogalleriet Foundation is the longest-operating institution in the Nordic countries and the only kunsthalle in Norway focusing on art photography. The foundation is concerned with problematizing photographic art and visual culture production and critically contributing to discourses around current image production. At the core of its mandate, the foundation works for a more balanced representation in the art field and society through collaboration with central, socially engaged organizations.
The Norwegian Association of Fine Arts Photographers (FFF)
The Norwegian Association of Fine Arts Photographers (FFF) was initiated and established by Knut Evensen and Robert Meyer in 1974, in a time when lens-based art sought to be acknowledged as an artistic medium. FFF has since become a nationwide members’ association dedicated to focused efforts for its members via art politics and art education, and through communicating the importance of art photography in Norway.
