Come neve
Adriano Bolognino.

Orsolina28: International Center for Creative Development
ORSOLINA28: DANCE IS IN OUR NATURE
Orsolina28 is an international center for dance training and creative development.
A dance school, a place for summer intensives and workshops with exceptional teachers, and a venue for creative residencies and performances, Orsolina28 has been working for years to support the development of talent and the education of artistic sensibility of all who are part of its wide community.
Born in 2016 from the enthusiasm and passion for dance of its founder, Simony Monteiro, in these years it has hosted dozens of internationally renowned dancers and choreographers.
Simony chose an unconventional location, an eighteenth-century farmhouse that served as the monastery of the Orsoline Sisters of Moncalvo. Built in 1794 next to a Romanesque church surrounded by vineyards, it is located between Moncalvo and Penango, the heart of Monferrato Astigiano.
All the spaces of Orsolina28 have been designed to promote sharing and contact with nature, without sacrificing comfort. From the studios, with large windows overlooking the hills and equipped with the highest quality equipment, to the performance spaces offering an engaging aesthetic experience: the panoramic Open-Air Stage surrounded by vineyards, and The Eye, an innovative and versatile elliptical architectural structure with excellent acoustic performance. The Eye can be completely closed or open with a 15-meter front, hosting performances of various disciplines and events.
Similarly, the spaces dedicated to hospitality offer housing solutions consistent with the values and vision of O28: the Glamping, with its geodesic tents in the shade of a grove, welcomes students and artists in an atmosphere that invites participation and exchange, as well as the hostel Le Magnolie, located on the top of a hill with a view that sweeps over the surrounding landscape, where every detail inspires living in company and friendship.
Respect for the environment and nature inspires the daily practices of eco-sustainability of Orsolina28: we are plastic free and use electric cars, water is filtered and purified, and we produce photovoltaic solar energy. From this environmental sensitivity emerges the agricultural activity of the garden that brings authentic and seasonal flavors to the table of Orsolina28: 4,500 square meters cultivated according to strict principles of organic farming, where vegetables, traditional and unusual herbs, edible flowers, grow on terraces in seasonal rotation to ensure the best yield of the soil and the highest quality production.
To complete Orsolina28’s commitment in supporting the development of talent and the education of artistic sensitivity, in 2020 the Orsolina Art Foundation was born, with the aim of promoting the future of performing arts and transforming them into a factor of social development and growth for the territory.
In summer 2021, thanks to the support of the Foundation, Orsolina28 launched Call for Creation – its first international call for young choreographers – and Focus on Creation. The two projects were born from the desire to contribute to the recovery of choreographic creation after the crisis that the Covid-19 pandemic produced in the field of performing arts and live performance in general.
In these uncertain times, Orsolina28 has chosen to open its spaces to young talents and established artists by offering them a period of creative residency aimed at giving life to an original choreography. At the end of the research and creation phase, the artists have offered a shared opening of their work to the public, thus giving rise to a calendar of engaging «performances in progress,» presented for the first time on the Open Air Stage.
In its first season, Orsolina28’s Open Air Stage hosted Emilie Leriche and Shawn Fitzgerald Ahern, Adriano Bolognino, Laccioland Company, Juliano Nunes, Ella Rothschild, Sol Leòn and Paul Lightfoot, Joy Alpuerto Ritter and Hannes Langolf.
The 2021 summer program concluded with a collaboration between Orsolina28 and Divertimento Ensemble – a historic ensemble dedicated to classical repertoire from the 20th century to the present. Divertimento Ensemble is a member of the Ulysses network that brings together 11 of the major European institutions dedicated to promoting contemporary music – which, with the support of Orsolina Art Foundation, was able to concentrate the Workshop for International Young Composers and the Conducting Course into a single location at Orsolina28, resulting in a summer training center for contemporary music of great impact at an international level.
