I anledning XVII Giornata del Contemporaneo – Den 17. Samtidskunst-dagen har vi invitert kuratorduoen Francesco Urbano Ragazzi til å snakke om deres arbeider og tanker om kunst. Duoen er valgt ut til å kuratere neste års utgave av kunstbiennalen LIAF – Lofoten International Art Festival. De vil spesielt snakke om performance og det å være performativ idag.
Med utgangspunkt i sin egen doble identitet, vil duoen Francesco Urbano Ragazzi reflektere over kunstens fortellinger og fremstillinger og det temporære ved den, og hvordan den krysser dagliglivet og medienes rom. Duoen vi også fortelle litt om neste års utgave av LIAF som åpner i september 2022 og om hvordan den ikke bare vil dekke hele Lofoten men også være representert andre steder: i Venezia; på en båt med biologer på deres ekspedisjon i Arktis; i sosiale medier til de ulike kulturinstitusjonene som deltar på biennalen; og til sist andre plasser spredt rundt om i Norge, kanskje sogar også i Oslo.
Duoen vil også involvere to italienske kunstrene på selve Samtidskunst-dagen, kunstnere som også vil være representert på LIAF 2022: Tomaso De Luca og Raffaela Naldi Rossano. De vil begge på hvert sitt poetiske vis konsentrere seg om bilder i bevegelse.
Det første arbeidet er kalt “Ballad of the Lights” og er en sekshendig forelesning-performance der Tomaso De Luca og de to kuratorene iscenesetter en dialog via chat som tar form som en VJ (profesjonell video-journalist): fortellinger, refleksjoner, bemerkninger, lenker og biter av en åpen samtale som utfolder seg og skapes der og da på skjermen mens vi ser på.
Raffaela Naldi Rossano presenterer derimot det første kapittelet av en reise fra sin fødeby Napoli via Hellas’ kyst til Norge for til slutt å legge til kai i Lofoten. Det dreier seg om et innvielsesritual i form av en video med tittelen “From History to US / Litania per Sirene”. Sammen med sitt reisefølge har kunstneren har skapt en ekte litani, et kvinnekor som krysser kystområder og finner en ny kommunikasjonsform med jorden og havets økosystem.

Francesco Urbano Ragazzi is a curatorial duo founded in Paris in 2008. Trained in ontology, gender, and media studies, its main interest resides in investigating the narratives that inform the age of connectivity. The duo has developed The Internet Saga, a research platform and cycle of exhibitions that started with a homonymous solo show by Jonas Mekas (2015) and culminated in the exhibition Hillary: The Hillary Clinton Emails by Kenneth Goldsmith (2019), both presented in unconventional contexts on the occasion of the Venice Biennale. Within this framework, the team has also developed commissioned projects in partnership with private and public institutions such as CERN -the European Organization for Nuclear Research (Geneva), the Bucharest Biennale, and Maraya Art Centre (Sharjah).
Francesco Urbano Ragazzi has also curated projects and exhibitions for, among others, the Italian Ministry of Equal Opportunities, CRRI Castello di Rivoli (Turin), ISCP (New York), MMCA National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Seoul), Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève, La Loge (Brussels), Institut Français (Paris), Futura (Prague), Ruya Foundation (Baghdad), Emirates Foundation (Abu Dhabi). Since 2017 the team has directed the archive of feminist artist Chiara Fumai.
The duo is curating LIAF 2022, the 17th edition of the Lofoten Biennial in Norway.

Tomaso De Luca is a visual artist who lives and works in Berlin. The artist employs drawing, sculpture, installation and video practices to expose what is buried in the collective imagery: his works stand as defections to the modernist canon, representing active survival strategies against isolation. His work has been exhibited at Quadriennale di Roma (2020), Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius (2017), Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro (2015), Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin (2015), among others. In 2013, he was among the finalists of the 9th Furla Prize, and, in 2017, he was a Cy Twombly Fellow at the American Academy in Rome. In 2021 his work A Week’s Notice won the second edition of the MAXXI Bvlgari Prize.

Raffaela Naldi Rossano (born 1990) lives and works in Naples, Italy. Through the activation of transformative processes, she engages in the investigation of new possible relationships and forms of intimacy, care and revelation. In her grandmother’s home in Naples, in 2017 she established Residency 80121, an on-going renovation and transformative space project to host others to inhabit the space and create alternative ways of being together.
