As part of the European actions of R.O.M – Residencies on the Move and within the new LANDING program supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Reykjavik Dance Festival hosts artist and author Diana Anselmo in residence, together with collaborators Daniel Bongioanni, Antonio Dominelli, Piersandra Di Matteo (dramaturg), and Saša Asentić (coaching), for a research phase of the project Pas Moi. The recidency takes place at the Dansverkstaedid during the period from 18.05 to 03.06.2025, and the initiative is made possible thanks to the support of the Italian Cultural Institute in Oslo
Pas Moi, a new lecture-performance by Diana Anselmo, is the final chapter of a documentary and emotional research that unravels the web of power and domination woven into mainstream historiography. If “Je Vous Aime” revealed the re-educational implications of the earliest moving images, “Pas Moi” follows a parallel path. From a Deaf and signing perspective, it explores the origins of early tools for sound recording, transmission, and reproduction. Through minor archives, counter-histories, and situated knowledge passed on body-to-body, the celebrated devices at the dawn of the cinematic and music industries are revealed as instruments designed with an audist and phonocentric intent: to cure deafness. Considered a disease to eradicate or erase within the hearing world, deafness is seen not as an identity or culture with its own language and community. “Pas Moi” seeks to imagine what can emerge when the starting point is different. Beyond the absence of hearing — further, and even further still.
